Maxine Henny Garrett was born on July 6, 1935, in Denison, Iowa, to Meinhard and Henny (Ketelsen) Feddersen. She attended school in Denison and graduated with the Class of 1953. Following high school, Maxine was united in marriage to Alan Garrett on December 6, 1953. Together they were blessed with four children.
Maxine worked as a secretary for Dow City-Arion Schools for 13 years and later for Job Corps for another 13 years, in addition to holding other positions throughout her lifetime. After retiring, she volunteered with Crawford County Hospital Transportation Services and worked in the kitchen at the Denison Community Schools.
Maxine was content with life’s simple pleasures, especially caring for family and friends. Polka dancing held a special place in her heart and remained a source of joy throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with Alan, and traveling together, including spending winters in Texas.
Maxine most often expressed her love through cooking and hospitality. Anyone who walked through her door was welcomed with a warm meal and open heart. She took great pride in caring for others and was always more concerned about everyone else than herself.
She was a longtime and faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Maxine passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. She was 90 years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alan Garrett; two grandchildren, Chad Alan and Mandi Arlene Thomsen; siblings, Margaret Ann Hageman, Julia Faye Prussing, Hans Feddersen, and Ronald Feddersen; and a son-in-law, John Stephens.
