Michael Dennis McKee was born November 9, 1950 to Dennis McKee and Betty (Miller) Schultz in Denison, Iowa. He graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1968. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy Submarine Corps and was stationed on the USS Plunger, serving his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on December 11, 1972.
On July 2, 1970, Mike was united in marriage to Terri Lee in Hawaii. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Dennis, Stephanie and Michelle. On August 11, 1979, Mike was united in marriage to Marla Meyer at his family's home in Denison. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters: Casi and Kayla.
After returning home from the Navy, he started working with his father at Wayne Schultz Construction. In 1998, Mike and his brother, David owned and operated the M&M Overhead Door and in 2003, they purchased Wayne Schultz Construction and conjoined both businesses into McKee Construction & Overhead Door.
Mike loved riding his motorcycle, weather permitting, anytime of the year. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical and going to Rock N Roll concerts. He was an avid Green Bay Packer's fan and a rollercoaster fanatic who enjoyed sudoku puzzles and table games. His favorite pastime was always camping with his family and friends while sipping on Fireball. He loved his family more than anything, especially his children and grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He was an active member of the Denison VFW for many years.
Mike passed away on June 28, 2021 at his home in Denison attaining the age of seventy years, seven months and nineteen days. He was preceded in death by his fathers: Dennis McKee and Wayne Schultz; wife: Marla McKee; son: Dennis Lee McKee; brother-in-law: Jim Thelen.
Left to cherish his memory, his children: Stephanie and her husband Jeff Harden of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Michelle and her husband Jeff Fink of Denison, Casi McKee and her significant other Kevin Collins of Arion and Kayla and her husband Dylan Krohnke of Schleswig; eight grandchildren: Nathanial, Jordan and Sydney Harden, Brooklynn Fink, Evelyn Beil, Jenna, Shelby and Tyann Krohnke; three great-grandchildren: Ava, Nora and Mila Harden; mother: Betty Schultz of Denison; brothers: Steve McKee and his wife Karen of Liberty, Missouri, David McKee and his wife Pam of Denison and Jeff Schultz and his wife Kris of Ankeny, Iowa; sisters: Melanie and her husband Bob Coenen of Denison, Alanna Thelen of Denison and Natalie Brede of Springfield, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation is 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Celebration of Life is 10:00 AM on Friday, July 2, 2021 also at the funeral home. Inurnment is in the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Memorials may be directed to the family.
