Michael Harry Sellman Sr. was born on August 23, 1944, the son of Harry and Lorraine (Hermecke) Sellman in Holstein, Iowa. He spent his summers as a kid on his grandparents' resort in Minnesota. He attended Odebolt Schools, and enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and served until his honorable discharge in 1967.
Michael married Bonnie L. Wendt on July 16, 1969, and adopted Gary Lee. The couple had two more children, Michael and Anissa. The family moved to Downs, Kansas where they made their home and raised their family. He worked at a casings plant and a RV manufacturing plant. Following retirement, he and Bonnie relocated to Durant, Oklahoma to be closer to their daughter.
He was a member of Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma. One of Michael's favorite things to do was go fishing and he enjoyed it throughout his entire life. He also enjoyed making fishing lures. He spent time volunteering at the Hands of Hope Food Bank.
Michael passed away on January 15, 2021, at age of 76 years, four months and 23 days.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie Sellman in 2014; two sons: Gary Lee Sellman and Michael H. Sellman Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Anissa L. Sellman-McCune of Durant, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two siblings: Jan Sellman and Jennifer Sellman-Shipman; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City.
