Michael Sorensen

Michael Robert Sorensen was born on December 29, 1953, the son of Robert and Dorothy (Schneider) Sorensen in Harlan, Iowa. He graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1972. Following his schooling, Michael spent time working in Harlan.

Michael married Laura Mahin in January 1994 in Dow City at their house. He worked at Iowa Beef Processors, Farmland and lastly, American Protein Company. Michael enjoyed gardening and cooking. His favorite pastime was watching TV, especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and San Francisco 49ers football. Above all he cherished his spending time with his dogs and his family. 

Michael passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 70 years, two months and 12 days.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Sorensen; and other siblings in infancy. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laura Sorensen of Dow City; children: Amy (Craig) Crilly of Grimes, Nicholas (Brenda) Larsen of Dow City, Jackie Larsen (Al Bruhn) of Dow City, Patrick (Bianca) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, and Cody (Brittani) Nelson of Clarksville, Tennessee; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. 

Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Dow City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to family.
