Nancy Catherine Gesy was born on November 17, 1954, to Darrell and Catherine (Endreson) Bengtson. She spent her early years in Mapleton, Iowa, until the family moved to Denison when she was 14. Nancy graduated from Denison High School with the Class of 1973.
She began her professional life selling real estate for McCord’s and took courses in insurance. Nancy had a passion for travel and family vacations, which led her to buy the Yankee Travel Agency in Denison. She successfully ran the agency for over 30 years. Later, she began working part-time at the First United Methodist Church in the mornings while continuing to manage the travel agency in the afternoons. After eventually selling the agency, Nancy continued her work at the church, where she remained employed.
Nancy was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She enjoyed sewing and often mended clothes for her family. In her younger years, she loved going out with friends and had a deep appreciation for music — especially the Beatles and Billy Joel.
A devoted grandmother, Nancy loved baking with her grandchildren, particularly sugar cookies, banana muffins, and banana bread. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially relaxing on her deck and enjoying their company.
Nancy passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital having attained the age of 70 years, six months and three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Catherine Bengtson and brother, Roger Bengtson.
