Norma J. Schoenfeld

Norma Schoenfeld, age 89, of Schleswig, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Gracewell Eventide in Denison. Funeral services will at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with burial in Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Visitation is from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig, and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the funeral.

Norma Jean, daughter of Edward J. and Hertha (Thomsen) Evers, was born March 7, 1933, in Denison, Iowa. She grew up in Denison and graduated from Denison High School.

On October 10, 1954, Norma was united in marriage with Alfred F. Schoenfeld at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Norma and Alfred were blessed the birth of three children. They farmed in Schleswig and continued to do so until they retired in 1992. During retirement, Norma enjoyed helping her friends Jolene and Judy in their businesses.

Norma was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig where she volunteered with the LWML and Quilting group. She also served on the Community Club Board and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, coloring, raising chickens and baking, especially angel food cakes and her "secret" ice cream dessert. Norma cherished watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For several years, she was a devoted caregiver Valera Stern.

On Wednesday, October 6, 2022, Norma passed away at Gracewell Eventide in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 29 days.

Norma is survived by three children: Lydell (Laurie) Schoenfeld of Schleswig; Calise (Wes) Thygesen of Audubon and Leon (Janell) Schoenfeld of Carroll; 14 grandchildren: Kelsey, Dave, Adam, Spencer, Dani, Derrick, Brittany, Lexie, Ethan, Kalina (Kenny), Keaton, Kaden and Karsen; 6 great-grandchildren: Jackson, Colt, Vesper, Avery, Luna and Ember; 2 step-grandchildren: Kyndra (Chris) and Lindsay (Darin): 11 step-great-grandchildren: Brock (Chasity), Alexia, Madison, Parker, Hayden, Konner, Ryker, Camden, Jaron, Brennan and Aspen; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren: Everleigh and Emery; a sister-in-law Pat Evers of Pocahontas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred Schoenfeld; her siblings: Darlene (Ralph) Vogt, Mardella Evers, Ardell (Henry) Ewoldt, and Derald Evers; and in-laws: Delbert Schoenfeld, Norman and Marilyn Schoenfeld, Alvern and Betty Schoenfeld, & Jim and Narlene Keim.
