Patricia Jean Svoboda

March 27, 1939 — September 14, 2023

Patricia Jean Svoboda was born on March 27, 1939, the daughter of Joseph E. and Bridget M. (Tajchman) Spale in Schuyler, Nebraska. She was baptized into Christ and later confirmed her faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. She received her education from Schuyler High School and graduated with the class of 1957.

Patricia was united in marriage to Edwin Svoboda on September 9, 1959, at Barbers Point, Hawaii, while Edwin was stationed there. Their union was blessed with three sons: Jim, Bob and Mike. Following their marriage Edwin continued his service in the Navy and they spent time living in Spokane, Washington and Corpus Christi, Texas. Following his honorable discharge, the couple made their home in Fremont, Nebraska, and then in Denison, Iowa, where they became members of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Patricia assisted Edwin with setting up calls with his business, Ed’s Appliance Repair. She also kept busy at home raising their boys, cooking for the family, and keeping the house tidy. Her sons were born close together; therefore, the years were busy, but Patricia said, “It was easier caring for them in their littler years than when they all left home around the same time.” She enjoyed following the boys in their various activities and sporting events. Growing flowers and watching TV were some of her favorite pastimes. She will especially be remembered for the delicious desserts she made for family gatherings. She loved being a mom and cherished spending time with her family.

Patricia passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at The Meadows at Ashland in Ashland, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, five months and 18 days.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Svoboda in 2006; six brothers: Kenneth Spale, Gerald Spale, Joseph Spale, Thomas Spale, Donald Spale, and Terrence Spale; and sister, Judy Svoboda.

She is survived by her three sons: Jim (Susan) Svoboda of Warrensburg, Missouri, Bob Svoboda of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mike (Jennifer) Svoboda of Palmdale, California; four grandchildren: Angel Svoboda of Houston, Texas, Dustin Svoboda of Nashville, Tennessee, Jessica (Tyler) Johnson of San Diego, California and Emily Parmer of Brooklyn, New York; two great-grandchildren: Eloise and Maddox; two brothers: Fred (Pam) Spale of Fremont, Nebraska and Duane (Jan) Spale of Grand Island, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
