Ralph John Beam was born October 9, 1936 in Dow City, Iowa, the son of John and Ella (Flagman) Beam. He was baptized on December 12, 1937. He attended country school near Dow City and Dow City Community School for many years. Ralph proudly served in the United States Air Force from October 12, 1955, until his honorable discharge on September 16, 1959. His dedication to his country was commendable and demonstrated his commitment to serving others.

On October 9, 1960, Ralph was united in marriage to Alys Larsen at the United Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa. The couple resided in Dow City for six months, in Defiance for six months and then moved to Manilla where they made their home. Ralph and Alys were blessed with the birth of three children, Rick, Diane, and Cindy, and were privileged to spend fifty-nine years of married life together. Ralph was employed at Farmland as a hog buyer for 42 years until his retirement in 2001.

Ralph's passion for horseback riding was evident as he was an member of the Manilla Rough Riders Saddle Club for many years. Taking part in trail rides and lending a helping hand during club activities brought him immense joy and fulfillment. Over the years, Ralph and Alys enjoyed  traveling and their camping trips to Yellow Smoke, Nelson Park, and Swan Lake. He also enjoyed playing cards and listening to country music.

One of Ralph's proudest accomplishments was his unwavering love and care for his family. He was a pillar of strength and support for his loved ones throughout their lives. His devotion knew no bounds as he nurtured a deep bond with each family member. The memories they shared will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Ralph passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Denison Care Center, attaining the age of 87 years and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Beam; wife, Alys Beam; and son, Rick Beam.

He is survived by his two daughters: Diane Bauer and her husband, Kenny of Manilla and Cindy DeLance and her husband, Scott of Rockwell City; six grandchildren: Nikki Peitz (Nathan), Mat Beam (Linsey), Jason Bauer, Shawn DeLance, Jared Beam (Charmaine), and Travis DeLance (Melissa); nine great-grandchildren: Brayden Peitz, Briley Peitz, Ayla Beam, Daklyn DeLance, Lincoln DeLance, Zayne DeLance, Hudsen DeLance, Maren DeLance, and Jaxon Beam; brother, Ronnie Beam and his wife, Mary Jane of Denison; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lorenzen of Denison; brother-in-law, Larry Larsen of Loveland, Colorado; other relatives and friends.

Private Family Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 in the Nishnabotna Cemetery in Manilla. Memorials may be directed to the family.
