Ramona Lee Laubscher was born September 1, 1930, in Albion, Nebraska, the daughter of Effenjer and Ethel Maxwell Hintz. She passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020, at CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-nine.
Ramona received her education in Nebraska schools, graduating from high school in Omaha. She then continued her education at Dana College where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 1969. Ramona was united in marriage to James Laubscher on April 20, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison officiated by Rev. C.W. Schmidt and they were blessed with the birth of one son, Garry.
Ramona began her lifelong teaching career at Coon Grove, Iowa, then at Deloit, moving on to teach first grade and middle school in Denison and subsequently taught at the 20th Street School in Denison. She retired after 47 years but returned to full time teaching for three more years. She retired a second time from full time teaching, but then returned as a substitute teacher for two more years. Ramona also gave tours of “The Little Red School House” that was located on their farm to numerous classrooms and groups through the years.
In addition to her passion for teaching, her faith in her Lord and Savior was very important to her. She was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, was a member of Zion’s Evening Guild and Dorcas Society and spent many hours volunteering at the church. She was always on the go and doing something. In her younger years, Ramona and Jim enjoyed square dancing at farm dances in the area and frequently joined others at Starlite Ballroom in Carroll, at Lake View and at the Golden Slipper in Dunlap. Both Ramona and Jim had motorcycles and went to Sturgis several years. She enjoyed socializing, watching Wheel of Fortune and her hot tea.
Preceding Ramona in death were her parents; her husband, Jim Laubscher in 2015; and two sisters, Joann Williams and Alberta. Survivors include: one son, Garry Laubscher and his wife, Kris of Surprise, Arizona; grandchildren:, Bric Laubscher and girlfriend, Kim of Omaha, Nebraska, Brandon Laubscher and his wife, Diana of Valley, Nebraska, Tia Mayo of Omaha, Nebraska, Tyler Pigman of Huntington Beach, California, Travis Pigman of Omaha, Nebraksa; six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Paige, Carson, Kane, Kyler and Collette; other relatives and friends.
