Regina Gabriel Deng was born on March 23, 1962, the daughter of Gabriel Deng and Mary Akol in South Sudan. She married Sudanese politician and leader, Joseph Kuol Amoum, who helped bring their country to freedom during the war. Regina later migrated to the United States with her four children. She first lived in Dallas before making her home in Denison.
Regina loved cooking for her friends, family, and community, and she was known as a wonderful cook. She especially cherished time spent with her many grandchildren. Later in life, she was reunited with her stepchildren when they moved from Africa to the United States.
Regina passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at her home in Denison at the age of 64 years, one month, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; and her son, David Kuol.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Kuol, Moses Kuol, Mary Kuol, and Nyamlell Wakoson; many grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Her graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Oakland Cemetery.
