Rhonda Kay Slavik (Holdsworth) was born on November 9, 1957 in Denison, Iowa to Melvin and Clarion (Evers) Holdsworth. She was baptized on October 19, 1958 and later confirmed her faith on May 21, 1972 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. She lived on the family farm and attended school in Manilla, Iowa. After graduation, she attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
On March 22, 1986, Rhonda was united in marriage to Dr. Doyle Slavik at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. To this union, they were blessed with one daughter: Jessica. They made their home in Schleswig, Iowa. Rhonda and Doyle owned and operated the Boyer Valley Vet Service in Schleswig where Rhonda worked for many years. She also worked as nurse for Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha and Crawford County Public Health. Rhonda was a 4-H leader for the Schleswig Sharks 4-H club for 11 years and was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2017.
Rhonda loved music of all kinds, playing multiple musical instruments including the piano and saxophone and singing. She enjoyed attending concerts, watching musicals, and listening to music throughout the day. She loved traveling with her family, especially trips to Oregon, California, and Rhode Island and appreciating the ocean. She also loved roses and other flowers, gardening, cross-stitching, cats, and collecting antiques; most of all, Rhonda loved her family more than anything.
Rhonda passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa attaining the age of sixty-three years, seven months and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her father: Melvin Holdsworth; siblings: Randall Holdsworth and Diane Wiener.
Left to cherish her memory, her husband: Dr. Doyle Slavik of Schleswig; daughter: Dr. Jessica and her husband Jordan Thistle of Mingo, Iowa; mother: Clarion Holdsworth of Denison; brother-in-law: David Wiener of Logan and his children; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service is 10:30 AM on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment is in the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Memorials may be directed to the family.
