Rhonda Jean Wiebers was born on May 25, 1962, in Carroll, Iowa, to Ivan and Elizabeth “Betty” (Harding) Opperman. During high school, she spent a year in Australia as a foreign exchange student, an early reflection of her adventurous spirit. She graduated from Manning High School in 1980 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1984.
Following college, Rhonda began her career as an accountant with Lynnville Seed in Lynnville, Iowa. She went on to work for Lockheart Construction in Waterloo, Medtronic in Tempe, Arizona, and Intel Corporation in Chandler, Arizona, where she dedicated 23 years to payroll. A certified payroll specialist, Rhonda took great pride in her work and her professionalism. She later worked remotely for Guidehouse for four years, until her health declined.
Rhonda met Gregory “Greg” Wiebers during his final week of college, shortly after she had graduated from Iowa State. The couple was united in marriage on August 9, 1986, at the Presbyterian Church in Manning, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Lewis and Kendra.
Rhonda lived life with energy and enthusiasm. She competed in triathlons and participated in beginner mountain bike races in Arizona through the Mountain Bike Association of Arizona, where she earned a state championship title in her age group. She was also a talented singer and a member of the Carroll Choir, sharing her love of music with others. Her adventurous nature carried into her love of travel, both for work and pleasure, taking her to places such as Malaysia, Japan, India, and Costa Rica, which she visited several times. As a family, they enjoyed camping throughout Arizona—heading south in the winter and north in the summer.
Rhonda passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the age of 63 years, ten months, and six days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Betty Opperman; her mother-in-law, Karen (Carstens) Wiebers; and her nephews, Alexander and Bradley Roberts.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 39 years, Greg Wiebers of Westside; her son, Lewis Wiebers of Ames; her daughter, Kendra (Luke) Myers of Ames; her granddaughter, Margaret “Margo” Myers; her siblings: Susann Siebke of Florence, Italy; John Henry (Nancy) Opperman of Manning; Emily Opperman of El Mirage, AZ; James “Jim” (Darci) Opperman of Manning; and Valarie (Jim) Roberts of Algonquin, IL; her father-in-law, Robert Wiebers of Westside; her aunt, Kay (Judd) Wagner of Petersburg, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends, Bruce and Diana Hollaway of Mesa, AZ.
Visitation with family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the United Church of Westside in Westside, followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Westside Cemetery.
