Robert Charles Reimer was born May 28, 1927, in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of William Christian and Emma Marie Reimer. He passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
Bob was baptized and confirmed at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church (now known as United Church of Christ) in Schleswig. He received his education at a rural Morgan Township school and graduated from Schleswig High School as valedictorian in 1944. He continued his education at the University of Iowa in six years receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree with highest distinction in 1948 and Doctor of Jurisprudence with highest distinction in 1950 as well as receiving the following honors: Phi Eta Sigma, Eta Sigma Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, Order of Coif and was admitted to Iowa and Nebraska State and American Bar Association.
In September of 1950, Bob was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Korea and Japan. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in Judge Advocate Corps in May 1951, received the Bronze Star in August 1952 and was honorably discharged in November 1953. After returning from the service, Bob joined Judge L.W. Powers in the practice of law in Denison, Iowa, where he remained. The firm is now known as Reimer, Lohman, Reitz, Sailer & Ullrich.
Bob was united in marriage to Mary Ann Gray November 23, 1957. Their family included children Mary Lynne, Judith, Robert Hugh and Amy Jo. On March 29, 1997, Bob married Leila K. Hamann and her children, Sheldon, Kathy, Lyndon, Patty and Clinton became part of his family.
His dedication to his community was evidenced in many ways by the following professional honors and associations: 1960-1985 Director, Farmers State Bank, Schleswig, Iowa; 1973-1980 Co-Chairman, Iowa Joint Editorial Board for the Uniform Probate Code; 1960-1975 Member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Special Committee on Probate, Property and Trust Law (Chairman 1973-1975); 1975 Co-Author of book entitled “Iowa Estates - Taxation and Administration”; 1975-1977 Member, Board of Governors, Iowa State Bar Association; 1976-1977 Delegate to House of Delegates, American Bar Association; 1979-1980 President, Iowa State Bar Association; 1963-1980 Frequent lecturer at Iowa State Bar Association and other Bar Association meetings regarding Probate, Corporation and Tax Law; 1980-Present Selected and Published in Book: “One of the Best Lawyers in America”, Probate Section; 1990-1996 Member of Council of Probate and Trust Section of Iowa State Bar Association; 1991 Recipient of Award of Merit, Iowa State Bar Association (its highest honor); Fellow, American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, Iowa Chairman for two years; one term Iowa District Judge Judicial Nominating Commission; one term Iowa Judicial Qualifications (Disciplinary) Commission; miscellaneous other committees of both Iowa and American Bar Associations.
Bob enjoyed entertaining, traveling to visit family and friends, dancing to polkas, playing cards, drinking and collecting wine. He loved every minute of his life. Bob was honest to a fault, generous, forgiving and kind. He provided wise counsel to clients, friends and family. He was proud to be from Schleswig, proud of his children and served others before he considered himself.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Ann; one son, Robert Hugh; two brothers, William A. and Elmer E. Survivors include: his wife, Leila; children, Mary Lynne and her husband, Stanley; Judith Anne and her husband, Edward; Amy Jo and her husband, Thomas; Sheldon and his wife, Roxie; Kathy and her husband, Craig; Lyndon; Patty and her husband, Eddie; and Clinton and his husband, David; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
