Charles Roger Bukacek was born December 21, 1944, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Stanley and Maryalyce Bukacek. He passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at his home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-two.
Roger grew up on a farm nine miles northeast of Denison and received his education at the Ar-We-Va Community Schools, graduating third in his class in 1963. He began playing the accordion at the age of eight and played in the United Polka Band for twenty-five years.
On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Kay Lamp and they were blessed with the birth of two daughters, Penney and Tammy. Roger was employed at First National Bank in Denison from 1963 to 1968, subsequently moving to Audubon, Iowa, where they owned a True Value Hardware Store from 1968 to 1976. After returning to the Denison area in 1976, Roger was employed at Eventide Lutheran Home for fifteen years and then worked for Denison Municipal Utilities from 1983 until his retirement in 2010.
Roger enjoyed music of any kind and playing the accordion. He also enjoyed fixing things, repairing anything if he put his mind to it and showing others how to do things. He loved to laugh, enjoying good friends, good conversation, a good card game and his family most of all.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two daughters: Tammy; and Penney and her husband, Wayne; four grandchildren: Colby, Emma, Jake and Becca; and one brother, Stan and his significant other, Laura; other relatives and friends.
