Rollin O. Auen

March 11, 1944 — November 23, 2022

Rollin Orville Auen, the son of Orville and Janice (Epsen) Auen was born on March 11, 1944 in Manilla, Iowa. He was baptized on July 9, 1944 at Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda and later confirmed his faith on December 25, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kiron. He received his education from the Denison High School where he was officers in the FFA. He graduated in 1962.

On November 17, 1963, Rollin was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Norma Giermann at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union, they were blessed with 5 children. They made their home in Kiron.

He plowed many acres with his father in his favorite Allis-Chalmers equipment. When Rollin started farming on his own, he continued the tradition of the Allis-Chalmers orange. Through the years, he had several different jobs where he excelled, but farming was closest to his heart. He served on the Kiron Fire Department, Kiron Community Club and was a 4-H leader. Rollin always looked forward to delivering Toys for Tots while wearing his Santa suit. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake for many years.

He enjoyed coin collecting, deer hunting with his children, grandchildren and long-time hunting friends, and cooking with Norma. He loved being in the kitchen, no matter whose kitchen it was. After retirement, you could often find him at farming and household auctions where he had his own bidding number, 400. Rollin had the gift of gab, he never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking to anyone. He had a good sense of humor who loved to have fun. Rollin always looked forward to big family gatherings. Above all, his children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy.

Rollin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, attaining the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Devon Auen; sister, Joyce and her husband Ron Siepker; brother-in-law, Milton Giermann and his children: Michelle and Mark.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 59 years, Norma Auen of Kiron; children: Dawn and her husband Daryl Potthoff of Wall Lake, Todd Auen of Denison, Trent Auen (Mollie Mortensen) of Kiron, Deborah and her husband Tim Isleb of Nevada; and Tyson Auen (Linda Thornton) of Charter Oak; grandchildren: Brett, Derek, Reece, and Addison Potthoff; Jordan and Hannah Auen; Wyatt, Walker, Whitlee, and Wrynn Auen; Ryne and Wrigley Isleb; Kaya, Raine, and Cash Auen; step-grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Jenna, and Shelby; brother-in-law, Vernis Giermann and his wife Donna of Kiron; and sister-in-law, Marlene Giermann of Denison; nieces, step-siblings and their families, other relatives and friends.
