Roy Russell King was born October 22, 1950, in Denison, Iowa, the youngest of nine children of Eugene and Hattie King. He passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-seven, after battling numerous health issues since 2011.
Roy grew up in Denison and attended the Denison Community High School until his enlistment in the United States Air Force in 1969. Upon being honorably discharged in 1973, Roy entered into business with Ed Schau in February 1973 under the name of Ed and Roy’s Shoe Service on Main Street in Denison. In 1975, Roy enlisted in the United States Army until being honorably discharged in 1978. He served in the Far East, Southeast Asia, Texas, Mississippi and Oklahoma and was awarded numerous medals and commendations. Roy went into the shoe repair business in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1978 where he remained until 2006.
Roy was a 1982 graduate of Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and a 2000 graduate of Oklahoma State University. Roy was the first student in Oklahoma ever to be allowed to do his internship while teaching orthotic construction and footwear modifications at OSU. In 2000, Roy was the first medically licensed Pedontist in the state of Oklahoma. He enjoyed country music, movies, fishing and gaming.
Roy was preceded in death by both parents; three sisters and three brothers. Survivors include: two daughters: Amber and Rachel; three grandchildren, Taylor, Tylor and J.D.; two sisters: Delores and her husband, Jack, and Pearl and her husband, Ed; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family requests casual attire at the Memorial Service.
