Thomas Joseph Brungardt was born on December 23, 1937, the son of Adolph and Margaret (Robben) Brungardt in Omaha, Nebraska. He received his education from Cathedral High School in Omaha, graduating with the class of 1955. He enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Division until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Tom was united in marriage to Janice Kanowski on June 3, 1961, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Omaha. The couple made their home in Omaha and was blessed with the birth of seven children. In 1964, the family moved to Denison where they purchased Lucky Lanes Bowling Alley with Warren and Mary Ann Grieb. Tom owned the business for over 55 years. Tom enjoyed bowling and went to many national tournaments with Jan.
Tom was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus in Denison. He and Jan enjoyed traveling and visited every state in the continental United States except for Maine. He was a Menards fanatic and if it had a rebate, he had a hundred of them. Those who knew Tom, knew the important retold stories about his Army days, extra $55 for jumping out of a plane, and how the red '57 Chevy got him in nothing but in trouble, and seven kids and a wife. One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying beverages and playing cards with the boys at the bowling alley. He also enjoyed the many fishing trips to Walt Johnson's Island in Canada with his family and close friends.
Tom passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the Denison Care Center at the age of 85 years and nine days.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice Brungardt; daughter, Pam Putt; and siblings: Lillian Riddle, Gilbert "Bud" Brungardt, and Frances Jacobson.
