Thomas (Tom) Joseph Head was born October 2, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of William (Bill) and Carmel Head. Tom passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at his home in Dow City, Iowa.
Tom graduated from Dow City Community School in 1965 after which he joined the U.S. Marines. He was deployed to Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Tom was an employee at Good Year Tire for fifteen years and then became a truck driver until he retired.
Tom was especially close to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. In his leisure time, he enjoyed barbequing, working in his garden, watching old westerns and college football, socializing with friends, and fishing and hunting in his younger years.
Preceding Tom in death were his father, William; his mother, Carmel; two brothers, William Sylvester and James Patrick. Survivors include: his wife, Pat; his children, Crystal and her husband, Travis; Nicole and her husband, Isaac; Geoff and his wife, Heather; Sunshine and her husband, Kevin; and Kayla; 13 grandchildren: Jake, Keila, Bridget, Nolan, Jordan, Trey, Blake, Harley, Dresden, Samantha, Neveah, Kevin Jr., and Dexter; two sisters; Elizabeth and her husband, Roger; and Noel and her husband, Butch; two sisters-in-law, Marlene and Marilyn; nieces, nephews and many friends.
