Wilma Sievers

Wilma was born on March 13, 1920, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to Edward and Lena (Rosburg) Goslar. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She attended Charter Oak School and graduated with the Class of 1938.

On January 15, 1941, Wilma married Alfred Sievers. Within a month of their marriage, Alfred was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. As a military spouse, Wilma lived in several locations while he served. After Alfred returned home, they made their home on a farm south of Charter Oak, where they farmed and raised their family. They were blessed with five children: Mike, Richard, Arlis, Janet, and Kay.

In 1962, the family moved to a farm west of Kiron, where they continued farming while also taking on other employment. Wilma began working at Fred's Café in Denison and later worked at several other area restaurants. She eventually fulfilled her dream of owning and operating the Kiron Standard Café, which she successfully managed for several years. She became especially well known for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls.

Wilma never let her age slow her down. She loved playing bingo, was an avid card player, enjoyed quilting beautiful quilts for her family and for charity auctions, bowled on area leagues, and cherished fishing trips with Alfred at their trailer on Sand Bar Beach in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, generous heart, and the love she shared with her family and friends.

After moving to Kiron, Wilma became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Following Alfred's passing on June 25, 1988, she remained on the farm until marrying Lenus Sievers on October 19, 1992. She then moved to Breda and became a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Following Lenus's passing on July 23, 1996, Wilma continued living in Breda until later moving to an apartment in Denison. In June 2025, she became a resident of Homestead Assisted Living in Denison, where she remained until her passing on July 25, 2026, having attained the age of 106 years, four months and 12 days.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Sievers; her second husband, Lenus Sievers; her son, Richard (Sue) Sievers; her infant daughter, Janet Jean; her parents, Edward and Lena Goslar; her brothers, Philip (Leona) Goslar and Edward (Lois) Goslar; her sisters, Lola (Herbert) Sievers, Irma (LaVern) Wessel, Jean Goslar, and Audrey Klockgether; and her brother-in-law, Norman Gosch.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mike (Susan) Sievers of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Arlis (Richard) Jones of Rancho Mission Viejo, California; and Kay (Danny) Blunk of Kiron, Iowa; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Ronnie (LouAnna) Goslar of Ute, Iowa; her sister, Shirley Gosch of Ute, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Henry Klockgether; Lenus's children and grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Charter Oak.

Wilma's life was one of faith, perseverance, hard work, and devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
