Milda Schiernbeck

Milda Ella Hilda Schiernbeck was born August 22, 1918, the daughter of John and Lizze Bendixen Wiedemann. She passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
She was born on a farm in rural Schleswig, Crawford County, Iowa, and attended Hayes #9 Country School in Ida County. She was baptized on September 22, 1918, and confirmed on March 20, 1932, at the Friedens Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Milda married Leonhard Schiernbeck on August 30, 1941, at Oyster Point in Newport News, Virginia. The couple moved to a farm near Schleswig, Iowa, and was blessed with the birth of one son, Dale.
Milda enjoyed working in the meat processing industry for 45 years before she retired from Schleswig Meat Specialties. Milda was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables and loved working with her hands. Over the years she had many hobbies and interests which included raising twenty white and colored peacocks. She was a member of the Schleswig Ladies Card Club and enjoyed playing 500, Euchre, Cribbage and Pinochle. She loved spending time with her family and cooking and baking German food. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonhard; and two sisters: LaJune and Lavina. She is survived by one son, Dale and his wife, Shelly; five grandchildren: Dustin and his wife, Jodie; DeLaina and her special friend, James; Ashley; Crystal; and Riley; three great-grandchildren: Reagan Ella, Layka, and Madison; three step-great grandchildren: Lisa, Kristina and Tyler; two sisters: Elvera and Ardene; one brother-in-law, Bud; other relatives and friends.
