Rose Wellendorf was born June 9, 1915, the daughter of Edward Ankeny and Rella Fulton. She passed away on March 6, 2011, at the Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, at the age of ninety-five.
She was born in Bedford, Iowa, and attended Fort Dodge Community Schools in Fort Dodge, Iowa, until moving to Ida Grove, Iowa, in 1932, graduating with the class of 1933. She attended Beauty College in Sioux City, Iowa, and was then employed in beauty shops in Odebolt and Schleswig first working for Marie Lyon, until opening her own salon where she worked until retiring in 1989.
She was married to Alfred "Ollie" Friedrichsen on September 3, 1938, and to this union two children were born. Ollie died in August 1961. She was later married to Herbie Wellendorf on June 22, 1968.
Rose was a wonderful homemaker, redecorating her home, an excellent cook, specializing in homemade pecan rolls, tasty pies, divinity and other candies. She also mastered wild game cuisine as long as her husband would clean what he shot. She liked to sew and was a talented seamstress, making her own drapes. Rose liked to do needlework, crochet, watch golf on TV, go dancing with her first husband, and bowl. She was on a bowling team in the 40s and 50s. She loved social activities and was a member of one card club and an alternate for another. She was famous for her sense of humor.
Serving was also important to her as she was a lifelong Democrat and supporter of the Party, fervently promoting equal rights for women, a member of the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and also the VFW Auxiliary. She was a very active and devoted member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ollie; her husband, Herbie in January 2006; one grandson, Joel in infancy; one half sister, Elsie and her husband, John; and one half brother, Harold and his wife, Mary. She is survived by one daughter, Diana; one son, Al Friedrichsen one granddaughter, Sara and her husband, Steven; two great-grandchildren, Geoffrey and Kelsey; and one half brother, Henry Ankeny of Clarinda, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Chris Burtnett officiated the service and graveside rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Wendy Bumann provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "In The Garden," "Abide With Me," and "Amazing Grace." Serving as pallbearers were Al Friedrichsen, M.D., Diana Jarman, Brian Wellendorf, Dale Wellendorf, Joey Hoefling, and John Kallin. The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Womens Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
