Larry Dean Strandburg was born July 22, 1940, the son of Eldon and Corrine Fett Strandburg. He died Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy.
Larry was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and received his formal education at East High School. He was baptized April 13, 1941, at the Third Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. After completing his education, he joined the U.S. Marines and served his country from 1958 to 1962. He was stationed primarily in Okinawa, Japan, but served in other Marine Corps bases. After receiving his honorable discharge, he lived in California and Washington state. In the mid sixties, he returned to Iowa. He owned and operated the S & S Feed Store in Schleswig until the mid eighties, then began working for Concrete Specialties in South Sioux City. On March 29, 1969, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Larry was united in marriage to Judy Beeck. The couple settled in the Schleswig area and were blessed with the birth of three children.
Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. More recently, he enjoyed cooking and going for rides. He also enjoyed playing cards in his leisure time and catching a sporting event on TV, but most of all, he enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was a sentimental soul who was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In his leisure time, he enjoyed the acreage the family lived on and was especially fond of sitting on the porch with his dog or going down to the pond.
Larry is preceded in death by his father and stepfather, Clarence Saline. Survivors include his wife, Judy of Schleswig; two daughters, Amber Grau and her husband, Jason of Elmhurst, Illinois; Ashley Potts and her husband, Nick of West Des Moines, Iowa; one son, Quent and his wife, Beth of Ashburn, Virginia; his mother, Corrine Saline of Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren, Madeline, Evelyn and Gavin Grau; one sister, Barb Stuart and her husband, Ed and one brother, Ron Saline and his wife, Sylvia all of Sioux City, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
