Katherine Beck

August 11, 1918 — October 19, 2010

Katherine Elsie "Sunny" Beck was born on August 11, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Mary Muffelman. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, California, and confirmed there on May 8, 1932. She attended school at Trinity for her elementary school years, and graduated from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles.
It was at Trinity that Katherine met Al Beck, formerly of Denison, Iowa. They were married there on October 26, 1949, and were blessed with 60 years of marriage before Al went to be with his Lord in 2001. They spent nearly half of those years in the Los Angeles area and 14 years at Malibou Lake Mountain Club, where Al was general manager. Their remaining 14 years were spent at Happy Wanderer RV Park in Indio, California. Sunny was active for many years in the LWML and was the first secretary at the Los Angeles Lutheran High School when it opened in the 1950s. She particularly enjoyed working at activities to raise funds for the development and maintenance of the high school thrift shop. She also very much enjoyed working with the Lutheran Braille Workers for many years.
After their retirement, Sunny and Al traveled around the country with a fifth-wheeler, enjoying the wonder of the United States for a year and a half. Another year found them repeating that trip, eventually visiting every state except Alaska.
Sunny and Al were proud of their family of girls. They had one daughter, Nancy Brown and her husband, Bob of Kiron, Iowa; one granddaughter, Corinne Lawrence and her husband, Doug of Missoula, Montana; and two great-granddaughters, Allison (18) and Elise (15) of Missoula. There are also many nieces and nephews who were special to Sunny.
Sunny moved with her daughter and her husband to Iowa in 2004. In 2007 she moved into Eventide Lutheran Home, and went to her final home in heaven with her Lord Jesus on October 16, 2010.
