Kenneth Hinze

Kenneth George Hinze was born February 9. 1918, to George and Emma (Bredehoft) Hinze on a farm near Gresham, Nebraska. He was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church, Thayer, Nebraska on February 24, 1918. He was also confirmed at this church on May 1, 1932. He attended country school near his home for a few years and finished his elementary education at the parochial school at Zion. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1936.
He was united in marriage with Helen Walde, Denison, Iowa, on September 17, 1944. The couple made their home on a farm near Gresham, Nebraska, until March of 1946 when they moved to a farm near Manning, Iowa. A few years later they moved to a farm near Denison. Due to his health, they moved to Denver, Colorado in February of 1952 where he worked as a custodian for the Denver Public Schools for several years. He then worked at the Wazee Market Warehouse for several years until he took employment with the Denver Museum of Natural History until he retired in 1975 and they moved to Sidney, Nebraska, where he worked part-time on weekends in a special needs group home. In 1984, the couple moved to Denison, Iowa, where they have since lived.
Ken sang in the church choir wherever he was a member for over 70 years. He was also involved in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado. He taught Adult Bible Class at St. Pauls Lutheran Church at Sidney, Nebraska. He enjoyed "fixing things" especially old clocks. He took violin lessons at an early age and through the years also accomplished playing a button accordion and organ, and piano.
He entered Denison Care Center on May 14, 2008, had knee replacement surgery on May 27, and has since resided at Eventide Lutheran Home. He died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
His parents, George and Emma Hinze, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Helen of 66 years; two sisters: Elvera Vopat of Bristol, Illinois; Leanna Nagel and her husband, Willard of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Raymond Walde and his wife, Clara of Denison, Iowa; Edward Walde and his wife, JoAnn of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Leonard Walde and his wife, Shirley of Westside, Iowa; eight sisters-in-law: Ruby Jahn and her husband, Paul of Denison, Iowa; Wilma Walde of Denison, Iowa; Lillian Fastenau and her husband, Arden of Denver, Colorado; Gladys Hagny and her husband, Phil of Gettysburg, South Dakota; Marilyn Yoakum and her husband, Max of Russell, Iowa; Marlene Brudenell of Tallahassee, Florida; Leone Walde of Manilla Iowa; Vi Walde of Denison, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
