Francis Leroy Baker was born December 14, 1928, the son of Harvey and Zola George Baker. He died on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one.
On December 14, 1947, Francis was united in marriage to Ruth Dugan in Wann, Nebraska, and the couple was blessed with the birth of two daughters.
Francis was a hardworking dedicated man. His first job, as a young man, was setting duckpins at the bowling alley. He had several other jobs over the years which included helping family members on the farm hand bale hay, theater projectionist, city water works man for San Juan, Texas, and for 35.9 years he worked for Southwestern Bell. After retiring, Francis and his wife enjoyed a year of traveling the country in their RV before deciding to hang up the keys and settle in Ricketts, Iowa.
As a proud lifetime member of the NRA, Francis enjoyed target shooting, silhouette target shooting, and his black powder cap and ball revolver. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and was a Harley rider. Francis was a light-hearted man who had a had a sweet tooth for Tootsie Rolls and loved his Dachshunds and his Shitzu. Francis was also a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America and the Telecom Pioneers and a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Ruth; two daughters: Marcella and her husband, Richard; Sharon and her husband, Edwin; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; four great-grandchildren; one sister Nelda and her husband, Pomeroy; many other relatives and friends.
