Mary Jean Samuelson

October 19, 1926 — January 28, 2021

Mary Jean Samuelson was born on October 19, 1926, to Paul and Josephine (Reardon) Roland in Ayrshire, Iowa. She received her education in the Gillet Grove school system. On July 3, 1944, she married the love of her life, Harlan Samuelson, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with three children; David, Jerilyn and Jon.

Mary Jean was devoted to her faith and loved her family more than anything else. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Not one to let the grass grow too long under her feet, Mary Jean loved to be on the move. She spent time living in Iowa, Montana and Washington in order to be closer to each of her children and their families. She cherished the time that she was able to spend with them and enjoyed being involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Jean had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Some of her favorite stories were about the times she and Harlan would ride their motorcycles from Iowa to Montana.

Mary Jean passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Denison Care Center in Denison reaching the age of ninety-four years, three months and nine days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Samuelson; son, David Samuelson; brothers, Bill Roland and Bobby Roland; and sister, Arlene Logan.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeri and husband Ron Dreyer of Denison, Iowa; son, Jon Samuelson and wife Cathy of Lake Stevens, Washington; daughter-in-law, Trudy Samuelson of St. Ignatius, Montana; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Krukow of Dickens, Iowa; brother-in-law, Arlo Samuelson and wife Carol Laurens, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Jean has requested that her body be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later time.
