Obituary

Sharil Kay Lawler was born on March 25, 1942, the daughter of Marvin and Emma (Speyer) Jentzen in Carroll, Iowa. She was baptized on March 29, 1942 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arcadia and later confirmed her faith March 25, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She grew up in the Arcadia area and attended Arcadia Public School until 1956, when Arcadia, Westside and Vail combined, becoming Ar-We-Va. She was a member of the first freshman class. She received her G.E.D. in 1970.

Sharil was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia most of her life, where she was a Sunday School and V.B.S. teacher. She was also an active member of the Walther League, where she served as president many times. She also served as secretary of the church council.

On June 1, 1958, Sharil was united in marriage to Allan W. Lamaack of Manning. They made their home west of Manning and to this union four children were born: Cindy, Gail, Jelene and Lynn. They later divorced and she moved to Vail. She married John P. Lawler on September 1, 1973, and became a mother to five step-children: Mike, Donald, Kathi, Teresa and Diana. They made their home in Vail and rural Breda area.

Sharil held various jobs including teaching assistant at Noah's Ark Preschool, a para professional for the pre-school handicapped for over 35 years, and driving school bus for Ar-We-Va. She thoroughly enjoyed all the children she worked with. It was such a joy to see them excel. She retired in 2007 from her duties as an aide. Sharil enjoyed playing cards, socializing with friends and family, and working on jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending winters in Mercedes, Texas with her dear friend who she considered a sister, Donna Kuehnhold. She considered the Joe Reiter family as her family and cherished spending time with them. Her family and friends were very close to her heart.

Sharil passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 80 years, three months and 20 days.

Sharil was preceded in death by her father, Marvin and step-mother, Norma Jentzen; mother, Emma and step-father, John Gambrell; husband, John P. Lawler; granddaughter, Kelsey Lawler; and her sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Bob Henkelman.
