Danny Joe Lapel, the son of Monte and Helen (Petersen) Lapel, was born on February 7, 1962, in Denison, Iowa. He attended grade school in Deloit and Vail. In 1975, the family moved to Missouri, and he graduated from Milan High School with the class of 1980.

Danny married Sharon Boettger on May 16, 1981, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, and their marriage was blessed with the birth of three children: Chris, Ashley and McKenzy. The couple later divorced. Danny moved to Florida until 2018, when he moved back to the Vail area and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Danny enjoyed traveling and worked various trucking jobs throughout his life, some of his employers were: Mid-Continent Trucking, Farmland, Kraijeck Inc., and hauling trusses in Florida.

Danny enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping. He also enjoyed the time he spent working and helping on the farm. Above all, Danny enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren.

Danny passed away on November 4, 2022, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa, due to a terminal illness at the age of 60 years, 8 months, and 28 days.

Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents: Raymond and Hazel Lapel and Raymond and Helena Petersen and his sister-in-law, Lori Lapel. He is survived by his three children: Chris (Skye) Lapel of Woodbine, Iowa, Ashley (Brock) Wagner of Lawrenceville, Georgia and McKenzy (Joseph) Mefferd of Manilla, Iowa; parents, Monte and Helen Lapel of Vail, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Matthew, Madyson, Adyson, Payton, Finn, Maverick, Brinlee, Piper, Knox, and Bennett; four siblings: Jerry Lapel of Wall Lake, Iowa, Gene Lapel and special friend, Kim Sutton of Amarillo, Texas, Todd Lapel of Lansing, Iowa, and Tracey Hallberg and special friend, Russ of Vail, Iowa; aunt, Janice (Howard) Gayer of Alton, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a genuine thank you to St. Anthony Nursing Home and Hospice for their care and hospitality.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, also at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family.
